Detail:Project management plays a critical role in the research world. Once funding for a project has been secured with a successful proposal, it is important to effectively initiate, monitor and close the project. This lesson will expose learners to the fundamentals of project management. Beginning with an introduction to the background of project management and the role of the project manager, the lesson will further cover the project lifecycle, project scope and project monitoring and controlling. Then the proper closure of a project will be discussed with a special emphasis on project review and follow-up. Finally, the learner will be given effective techniques used by all types of project managers including time management (milestone planning, work breakdown structure), cost management (estimation methods, resource planning), communications and team-building, and risk management (risk response strategy, calculation of risk values decision effect matrix).
